Understanding GST Calculation
Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India is a comprehensive indirect tax. It is typically split into two components for intra-state transactions:
- CGST (Central GST): Collected by the Central Government.
- SGST (State GST): Collected by the State Government.
For a given GST rate, CGST and SGST are each half of the total rate. For example, on an 18% GST slab, CGST is 9% and SGST is 9%.
Formulas Used:
To Add GST:
GST Amount = Base Amount × (GST Rate / 100)
Gross Amount = Base Amount + GST Amount
To Remove GST:
Base Amount = Gross Amount / (1 + (GST Rate / 100))
GST Amount = Gross Amount - Base Amount
